I am starting university for a 3 year engineering degree in October next year. I enrolled onto the Bristol GS ATPL course last month.
Based on working 25 hours per week, I have a good amount of time to study. So I planned some realistic timescales:
module 1 exams finished by late march, module 2 by late July. However, this means module 3 will clash with start of university. Once you have passed your last ATPL exam you have 36 months to pass your CPL and IR skills test. University is also 3 years long finishing in may 2027, so to give myself more time for the IR I am hoping to finish module 3 around December 24 or January 25. I should have enough flight hours to do the CPL by 2026 so I'm hoping to do that in summer 2026 as it is a short course, but the IR course is much longer and very expensive (due to the multi engine aspect).
So a solution would be to just study mod 3 alongside the first term of university, 1st year of uni engineering is fairly laid back as I have heard from my friends so I feel I will be able to do it. I also know someone who went to uni and did their whole ATPLs exam course whilst at uni. CPL in 2026 summer then IR in 2027 (May to December window potentially).
I just wanted to ask for some opinions and if anyone has been in the same situation before?
