I now have a student who is not native English and wanted to clarify what (and when) the testing of English capability needs to be done. Specifically,
i) can I send him/her solo without this? It would appear so.
ii) Is the timing for an English speaker assessment best done after passing the Skill Test?
iii) The student already has an IELP qualification (I am not sure which one). Does this count?
iv) Must the assessment be done in person, onsite at the approved language ATO or can it be done via Zoom?
v) For those already living and working in the UK, so with a reasonable conversational level of English, is a training course in aviation English generally required.
The CAA website states:
a) That a Flight Examiner could assess a non-native English speaker as Level 6 during a flight test.
b) Indicates that the CAA approves language schools, but does not give any list
c) Does provide a list of ATOs of which four are specifically approved for language assessment
Presumably the approved language schools are simply the ones that have also been approved as ATOs?
