I'm based at Popham and looking for somewhere not too far away to carry out a compass swing on our aircraft. Does anyone know of an airfield say within 45 mins flying time that has an up to date compass base we could use ? Bournemouth have one but charge over £100 to use it, which may be plus VAT. I was wondering whether Lee on Solent or Thruxton might have one.
The other option would be to find a nice flat open area and swing it using a good reference compass on the outside of the aircraft but I'm not sure how I'd go about borrowing or finding a Master Sight Compass (which seems to be what is sometimes used ) to do this. To buy one seems extremely expensive !
