There are some strange marks on all four wheels of my new (4 week old) car, which I only noticed 10 days ago when I washed it for the first time. The dealer are giving me a huge amount of grief - possibly more through uselessness than anything else - but I remain unhappy. What is strange is that the marks are "below" any lacquer inasmuch as you can't feel them; the wheels are totally smooth which rules out me having kerbed them (and the chances of me kerbing all four within 4 weeks without scuffing the metal if vanishing small).

Anyone have any idea what this might be? It almost looks like some form of tyre dressing applied by the factory or dealer, as it only appears around the rims. The dealer wants me to claim against the company that made the cleaning product I used, but I am reluctant to do so as a) I noticed the marks within ~2 minutes of rinsing it off, and b) it came supplied by the dealer anyway.

I have booked it in for a Warranty Assessment, but the earliest they can do is in four weeks time and takes 2 days!

TIA
