Hi all,

I’m a PPL(A), qualified last October. I’ve done about 8 hours since I got my license, and am looking for next steps.

I’ve been looking at getting my night rating booked in, but the weather hasn’t been great. Both my flying school and others have said they stop doing night ratings when the clocks change in March until October when they change again. In other words I’m running out of time to get the night rating done in the next 3 weeks especially if the weather stays rubbish.

The Instrument Rating (restricted) can obviously be done anytime and I thought it would be good to get this started while the weather is better (hopefully!) over the summer.

My question is, would you advise me to get the night rating before starting IR(R), or do you think doing IR(R) over the summer and doing night rating in October is a good plan?

Keen to get people’s thoughts on pros and cons of doing IR before night rating, or vice versa.

Thanks
