Where have you been? What have you seen?

Well, despite experiencing low cloud, the odd spot of rain and winds varying between 35 on the nose to 35 on the tail, 8 aircraft made it to Sollas, North Uist yesterday. Given the effort put in it was nice said effort was not in vain. There was an aircraft from as far south as Southampton (he had been there a couple of days) and 2 from Orkney. :thumright:

Not wanting to get sand and seawater on my aeroplane,  but still wanting to go to Sollas I opted to join someone else in their aeroplane. We had rather long sea crossings, but did have vests and a raft. We routed across Bute, out past Arran, north of Jura to overfly Corryvreckan (which had little activity), on to the south of Mull, across Staffa and Fingal's Cave, up the Little Minch to coast in North Uist to the east of Sollas.

Sadly my job appeared to be taking the stick once the aeroplane had been ideally positioned for the owner to take his pics, my pics are somewhat lacking. Nevertheless I offer a few to hopefully whet the appetite for a visit to the Outer Hebrides. :thumright:

The very special Iona can be seen just beyond the south tip of Mull.

The terrain of North Uist is incredible. It appears within the coastline there is as much water as there is land. Note the road running through the centre of the pic.

The threshold. :D

The sheep trailer doubling up as a cafe. :D Not only was the wind strong, it was cold!

A selection of the 8.

The islander was last to land with a full load. Including the BBC. :D
