Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what the meaning of a '/' in a METAR is, and what the repetition of them represents? Sometimes positioned before, sometimes after the cloud type and level.

For example:
EGSS 191020z AUTO 16013KT 9999 -RA BKN004/// OVC027/// //////TCU 15/14 Q1009

Just an example but often noticed when there are TCUs/CBs there are often 6 of them before. But then we also have 3 /// after the BKN and OVC info. I've not seen it written what they represent but I imagine its info missing or something undesirable.

Any help or direction is appreciated.
