If I run SD on my 10" iPad and the screen is set to do any more than glimmer, then it is a challenge to get it to charge. Typically the battery indicator will be green, with a lightning bolt, but the %age will decrease.

Now, I am aware that there are a number of holes into which a lightning cable can be plugged, which broadly come down to:
  • USB-C 3.1A
  • Type A QC3
  • Type A 3.1A
  • Type A 2.1A
I know that there are other standards, but if you look realistically at what is sold either on Amazon for cigar lighters or by Mendelssohn as panel mount, those are the four markings you see.

The thing is, some of them will charge my iPad satisfactorily, even in use, and others won't, and it doesn't even particularly to follow the marking.

For example, in my Rallye I have a Type A panel mount marked QC3, and a cigar lighter with a Type A QC3 socket. The latter will charge my iPad, but the former won't.

In the Navajo I have this:

And sometimes (most reliably) the QC3 works, but sometimes, at apparent random) it's better to move to a 3.1A.

Can anyone take the mystery out of this?
