Stralsund on the Baltic coast is a quaint little town that shows its heritage from the times of the Hanseatic League. Its own little airfield is located close to the town (5km / 15 EUR with taxi), which is more convenient than most. The runway 05/23 is 900 meter grass, but a very bumpy grass. The whole place is riddled with holes made by voles or other little critters. Not altogether pleasant.

Airfield is PPR, which can be obtained in writing be emailing info@flugplatz-stralsund.de. In German, mind you! English is not really spoken here. According to the Jeppesen plate, radio is in German also, too, but we used English without problem; there was no traffic. The old man at the radio was very helpful, but only speaks German. Landing and overnight parking: 18 EUR. There is fuel, but only MOGAS. The web site (http://www.flugplatz-stralsund.de/index ... &Itemid=31) gives the impression of a hustling and bustling little airfield, but that was not the case 14-15 May this year.

For visits to the town of Stralsund, the tarmac airfields in Barth or on Rügen may be a better bet. Rügen is very nice, and one can rent cars there.

(No pics, I'm afraid. The web site has some, as does eddh.de: an essential resource for any GA-pilot wanting to fly in Germany who can read a bit of the language.
