Hi,

I believe this is my first post here and I am looking for some general advice and pointers. I am in my early 30's and hold a UK-Issued ATPL (unfrozen). In late 2022, I unfortunately went through a period of poor health, both mentally and physically, and I had a provoked-seizure with a known cause. Therefore, because of this I have lost my Class 1 Medical, with the CAA stating that I can re-apply for it in December 2027, when my seizure risk drops below their '1% Risk Threshold'. I have had zero reoccurrence since, and not on any medication.

I have been back and forth with the CAA to gain better understanding of this as I have had two neurologist's stating a difference of a year of this '1% Risk Threshold' (CAA Consultant stating December 2026) being reached.

Essentially, I am now 'waiting' which is frustrating. I would like to ask if anyone knows what the situation could look like when I come around to re-applying for my medical in regards to restrictions applied to my medical. Will it potentially make it very difficult to return to aviation? I've obviously had a temporary 'pause' to my career as well but am trying to remain positive and stay within the aviation industry as I deeply miss flying and being back in the skies, with a positive outlook that I still will be able to.

Is there anything else I can do apart from.. wait? It could've been worse, I have heard people having to wait 10-years.. Why?

I welcome any and all advice, many thanks.
